A first for me today when we took to the skies above the garrigue and the Pays d'Uzège in a hot air balloon. Slightly nervous, I had nothing to worry about. Les Montgolfière du Sud gave us an amazing trip, starting north of Lussan and heading south over the village, then over the mas where we could see our own dogs in the garden, and on across the garrigue and valleys . It was a whole new perspective on the landscape and fascinating to see the trails and villages which we have explored on foot from a distance and spot new areas to investigate.
Most stunning were the hoards of sanglier, or wild boar, we could see racing away from the sound of the gas burners in the still morning skies. We always knew there were a lot in this region but now we can confirm it! It was like watching ants.
At this time of year you are struck by how green the region is. After last year's drought it's a real pleasure.
The balloon trip I can highly recommend. It was very stable, and the landing unbelievably smooth so thanks to Jean, our pilot and guide. A picnic by an ancient lavoir in the fields ended a lovely morning. For the couple in our companion balloon who got tengaged in mid flight it was even more special!
